Laurence H. Leavitt is a 1986 cum laude graduate of the University of Maine School of Law and an honors graduate of Dartmouth College. At the University of Maine School of Law, he was a member of the Maine Law Review and served as its Comments Editor in the 1985-86 academic year. At graduation, he was selected as a recipient of the Faculty's Significant Achievement Award. Thereafter, he served as law clerk to the Honorable D. Brock Hornby, United States Magistrate for the District of Maine in Portland, Maine, now Judge of the United States District Court. Laurence has gained significant trial experience in product liability and personal injury cases, particularly in the areas of fire liability and property damage cases and in trucking liability. He has also litigated extensively in all areas of property and liability insurance. He is a member of Defense Research Institute, the Property Loss Research Bureau, the Loss Executive Association, and the Trucking Industry Defense Association, and has been a frequent national lecturer on fire, liability, and insurance related topics.

Laurence is an avid fly-fisherman, a passionate New England sports fan, and spends a lot of time supporting the equestrian pursuits of his two daughters, the oldest of whom is a nationally-ranked eventer. Laurence is also a trustee of Vermont Academy of Saxtons River, Vermont, where his late grandfather was Headmaster Emeritus.
